Caracterización de los sistemas geotermales asociados a los volcanes activos Ubinas y Huaynaputina, región Moquegua - [Boletín B 60]

Abstract

[ENG] The current study aimed to show the results of the geological, geochemical and geophysical survey of the geothermal system between the active volcanoes Ubinas and Huaynaputina. These volcanoes are located from 30 to 70 km approximately, in oblique length behind the main arc of the Volcanic Zone Central, at the south side of Peru. Similarly, these volcanoes belong to the active volcanoes zone at Moquegua region. The heat source evidence is characterized by the presence of active volcanoes and deep fault systems. At Ubinas, three structural systems were identified: 1) NW – SE sinestral fault, 2) N-S normal faults and 3) E – W as fracture systems. Whereas at Huaynaputina exist two structural systems: 1) NW – SE normal faults and 2) E – W almost in all cases they act as fracture systems and extensional structures. Additionally, between the two volcanoes there is a sinestral fault with NW –SE trend; it generates oblique sinestral fault system and extensional structures. The fault and fractures systems on the study area aid the meteoric water infiltration which in turn recharges the geothermal systems, provide the fluid circulation inside the system and then, rich up through the surface as hot springs.

[ESP] En el presente trabajo se muestran los resultados de los estudios geológicos, geoquímicos y geofísicos de los sistemas geotermales asociados entre los volcanes activos Ubinas y Huaynaputina. Estos volcanes están localizados aproximadamente entre los 30 y 70 km en prolongación oblicua detrás del arco principal de la Zona Volcánica Central en el sur del Perú. Asimismo, estos volcanes son parte de los centros volcánicos activos existentes en la región Moquegua. La evidencia de calor geotérmico en la zona de estudio está dada por la presencia de volcanes, cuya actividad se manifiesta con emisión de gases y cenizas, principalmente emitidos desde el cráter del volcán Ubinas; y fumarolas desde el cráter del volcán Huaynaputina. También se tiene la presencia de fuentes termales con temperaturas que alcanzan en algunos casos los 81°C en superficie. Los sistemas geotermales están caracterizados por la presencia de volcanes activos y sistemas de fallas profundas. En la zona de Ubinas se determinaron tres sistemas estructurales: 1) de rumbo NO-SE con movimiento sinestral, 2) N-S fallas normales y 3) E-O como sistema de diaclasas. Mientras que en la zona de Huaynaputina existen dos sistemas de estructuras: 1) de tendencia NO-SE con movimiento normal y 2) E-O que en su mayoría se comporta como sistema de diaclasas y estructuras extensionales. Asimismo, entre los dos volcanes se presentan fallas sinestrales de rumbo NO-SE, generando sistemas de fallas sinestrales oblicuos y estructuras de extensión. El sistema de fallas y fracturas en la zona de estudio favorece la infiltración de agua meteórica que recarga a los sistemas geotermales, ayuda a la circulación de fluidos dentro del sistema que luego ascienden hasta la superficie como fuentes termales.
